Arthur Szyk and the Art of the Haggadah, 5–8pm | FREE | Arthur Szyk, a Polish Jew keenly aware of current events, fused his two passions—art and history—into a visual commentary on the dangerous parallel between the Passover narrative and the alarming developments unfolding in Nazi Germany in the 1930s.

Free tours of the Juana Briones y su California exhibition, 5-8pm | FREE |  Enjoy free tours of the Juana Briones y su California exhibition with CHS’s Guest Concierges. In this bilingual exhibition about the life and times of Juana Briones (1802–1889)—pioneer, founder, healer—we experience the transformation of California under three flags: Spain, Mexico, and the United States. We navigate alongside Juana through the social, economic, political, and legal upheavals of nineteenth-century California. Through paintings, maps, portraits, legal documents, and artifacts, we realize a vision of Juana Briones as a woman adaptable yet undaunted in her pursuits.

2 )  Contemporary Jewish Museum | 736 Mission St @ Yerba Buena Lane

Larry Ochs – Dohee Lee, 6:30 – 7:15pm | $5 after 5pm | The CJM, in partnership with the Center for New Music, is pleased to offer four site-specific performances in conjunction with the new exhibition Work In Progress: Considering Utopia. Each performance features an improvising duo of one musician and one dancer. The performances will happen within the gallery and “activate” Ohad Meromi’s sculpture1967.

Film Screening: Free Angela and All Political Prisoners, 5–8pm / 6:30pm  | FREE | Join us for our current exhibition, Crosscurrents: Africa & Black Diasporas in Dialogue, 1960-1980. Opening Reception for Alexandra Bailliere Treadwell, 5 – 8pm | FREE | Graduating Student from the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Visual Arts at UC Berkeley Extension, Treadwell’s work both examines the inherited object as a symbol of history and utilizes it for a visceral/visual effect, using various inherited materials in her work: handkerchiefs, table linens, ceramics, mirrors, and other household items.
