The City Luminous, 5–8pm | FREE | Enjoy extended gallery hours to view City Rising: San Francisco and the 1915 World’s Fair.  At 7pm toast with us to the launch of The City Luminous: Spectral Canopy Variation, a projected light piece by Kerry Laitala and the latest installment in Engineers of Illumination.  At 8pm, step into Annie Plaza for a short talk with artist Kerry Laitala.

City Rising: Show and Tours, 5–8pm | FREE | Join us for extended gallery hours and enjoy special docent-led tours, at 5:15, 6:15, and 7:15 pm, of the new exhibition City Rising: San Francisco and the 1915 World’s Fair. Take a journey inside the exposition to see what fairgoers would have encountered 100 years ago in the grand palaces, exotic foreign pavilions, and the amusement midway known as the Joy Zone.

Lecture & Demonstration: De Curros a Especuladores: Black to the Future in Cuba with Umi Vaughn, 7–9pm | FREE | This talk traces the relationship between a special class of black Cubans known as “Curros” from the island’s colonial past and Cuban youth today. Umi Vaughan is an artist and anthropologist who explores dance, creates photographs and performances, and publishes about African Diaspora culture.
