  • ConVerge: Chris Treggiari & Peter Foucault MobileArtPlatform, 4–8pm | FREE | ybca.org/converge | Presenting Treggiari and Foucault’s Mobile Arts Platform (MAP) project and Mobile Screen Print Cart, an interactive, neighborhood-generated social sculpture inspired by the design of a classic teardrop trailer that is towed behind a vintage Vespa scooter. The Mobile Screen Print Cart explores the varied history of community posters in the Bay Area, while giving the viewer a platform to create their own original, individual posters that will dispersed throughout the Bay Area.

3. Museum of the African Diaspora | 685 Mission St @ 3rd | moadsf.org

  • Works by J.D. ‘Okhai Ojeikere and Gordon Parks, 5–8pm | FREE | MoAD is the scene for beats by DJ Craft Spells. The MoAD Salon will feature iconic photographs of Gordon Parks, Life magazine’s first African American staff photographer, and one of America’s finest photojournalists, along with a continuous screening of Shaft’s Big Score, directed by Parks. The 3rd Floor (main) gallery will feature the first West Coast showing of the works of J.D. Ojeikere, a Nigerian national treasure whose images focus on preserving cultural traditions in the face of Nigeria’s change from colonial rule to independence.

  • Unbuilt San Francisco: The View from Futures Past, 5–8pm | FREE | The California Historical Society will be open for extended hours for viewing of the new exhibition. In Unbuilt San Francisco: The View from Futures Past, the California Historical Society presents some of the most revealing episodes in these distinct but related streams of civic discourse through projects that were proposed but never realized.

  • Solo exhibition of works by Sumiko Shimada, 6-10pm | FREE | Presenting Sumiko Shimada, Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Visual Arts graduating student, The Nature Series. Drawing abstract natural environments using the process of pouring Sumi ink on moving a paper, the artist explores motifs of the sky (weather), ocean, and evolution.

  • Beyond Belief: 100 Years of the Spiritual in Modern Art + more, 5–8pm | $5 discounted admission | Beyond Belief is an expansive exhibition exploring the spiritual dimensions of modern art, especially as seen through the lens of Jewish theological concepts. The exhibition features forty-eight internationally-known artists whose work—painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installation art—are all drawn from SFMOMA’s outstanding collection.
