Culinary Collections & Yosemite viewing, 5–8pm | FREE | At 6pm, view a slideshow of culinary treasures from the California Historical Society Collection. Visit the gallery for Yosemite: A Storied Landscape, 5-8pm

2 )  Cartoon Art Museum | 655 Mission @ 3rd

The Pen is Mightier than the Sword, 5–8pm | FREE | Join in solidarity with our fellow cartoonists, artists and those who believe in the freedom of expression.  In conjunction with our Slinging Satire exhibition; write, draw, or join together and share your thoughts.  Paper and drawing materials will be provided.

3 )  Contemporary Jewish Museum | 736 Mission St @ Yerba Buena Lane

Third Thursdays Live at The CJM: Laurie Lewis, 6:30–7:30pm | $5 after 5pm | On select Thursdays, Hardly Strictly Warren Hellman will be activated through live music, featuring bands and acts that have performed over the years during Hardly Strictly Bluegrass (HSB). This month: International Bluegrass Music Association calls Laurie Lewis “one of the preeminent bluegrass and Americana artists of our time.”

4)   Museum of the African Diaspora | 685 Mission St @ 3rd

Authors in Conversation: Inside This Place Not of It: Narratives From Women’s Prisons, 5–8pm | FREE | Join Inside This Place, Not of It editors Robin Levi and Ayelet Waldman in conversation with Dr. Monique Morris about the challenges faced by African American girls and women in the prison system and the movements for prison justice and reform. Preview our newest exhibition, The Art of Elizabeth Catlett. Also on view, Lava Thomas: Beyond in our newly renovated gallery space.

Explorations into the Rise and Fall of Sign and Artificial Languages, 5–8pm | FREE | Presented in conjunction with “Living with Endangered Languages in the Information Age,” this program will feature a live performance titled “Resonant Shift,” a media dance collaboration by Gregory P Dawson and Kadet Kuhne, as well as a panel discussion with Eric Theise and Scott Kildall, moderated by Jonathon Keats.

ConVerge: Mapping Us-Un-Frayed…Viva SF Arts, 4–8pm | FREE | Come celebrate the new year with us at a unique gathering of local arts leaders, brought together in a communal conversation around the present art and cultural ecology and the possibilities for its future.
