City Rising: Show and Tours, 5–8pm | FREE | Join us for extended gallery hours and enjoy special docent-led tours, at 5:15, 6:15, and 7:15 pm, of the new exhibition City Rising: San Francisco and the 1915 World’s Fair. Take a journey inside the exposition to see what fairgoers would have encountered 100 years ago in the grand palaces, exotic foreign pavilions, and the amusement midway known as the Joy Zone.

2 )  Cartoon Art Museum | 655 Mission @ 3rd

Various Exhibitions, 5–8pm | FREE | The Cartoon Art Museum exhibits pieces that represent the history, contemporary development, creators, design, and processes underlying the art forms of cartoons, comics, digital animation, illustration, and videogames.

3 )  Contemporary Jewish Museum | 736 Mission St @ Yerba Buena Lane

Third Thursdays Live at The CJM: David Berkeley, 6:30-7:30pm | $5 after 5pm | Dubbed a “musical poet” by The San Francisco Chronicle, David Berkeley enhances his songs with an endearing stage presence and finger picking guitar style.

4 )  Museum of the African Diaspora | 685 Mission St @ 3rd

Lecture & Demonstration: De Curros a Especuladores: Black to the Future in Cuba with Umi Vaughn, 7–9pm | FREE | This talk traces the relationship between a special class of black Cubans known as “Curros” from the island’s colonial past and Cuban youth today. Umi Vaughan is an artist and anthropologist who explores dance, creates photographs and performances, and publishes about African Diaspora culture.

5 )  Museum of Performance + Design | 893B Folsom St @ 5th

Exhibition Opening Party, 5:30-9:30pm | FREE | Join us around performance and artist talk to celebrate the opening of Latifa Medjdoub: Sublimated Masks, a multimedia exhibition of stage costumes and fiber sculptures revealing the universe of Jean Genet’s landmark play The Balcony. 5:30pm Exhibition opens; 8pm Performance; 8:45pm Artist Talk.

ConVerge: Shana Moulton Picture Puzzle Pattern Door Opening, 4–8pm | FREE | Join us in celebrating Moulton’s opening in our upstairs galleries. In addition to free admission to YBCA’s galleries, ConVerge presents an evening of performance and music with Shana Moulton & friends, and New York-based mobile television studio E.S.P TV will shoot a live taping in the Grand Lobby.
